Hey Guy Media 1

This month, we talked with Cameron Penn, Managing Parter at Hey Guy Media, about the content marketing and video production agency located right here in Argyle. Read on to learn more about the talented team behind creative content for some of the world's biggest brands, agencies, nonprofits, and more.

Q: How did your business get started?

Cameron: We actually started
Hey Guy Media 15 years ago making movies and TV pilots for HBO, F/X, Lionsgate and Disney. That includes Bratz: The Movie, but don’t hold that against us!

When the economy turned sideways in 2008, we turned the company into what it is now: a commercial and corporate production company that specializes in digital, social and mobile content. Most of our clients were looking for new ways to market themselves and their brands. When they asked us if we did social media marketing, we said “sure, we do.” The reality was, we were learning just like everyone else but we weren’t going to let our clients walk to a competitor. We listened and we hired the right people. And now we work with Fortune 100 companies, global ad and PR agencies and non-profits, right along with small start-ups and local businesses.

Q: What's one unique thing that your business is known for, and why? What would you like the residents of Argyle to know about your business?

Cameron: We’re probably best known for our responsiveness and our customer service. Period. Most of the folks we work with have been with us at least a dozen years and they’re no longer just clients — many have become close friends. A lot of that has to do with the amount of time we spend getting to know them and their brands.

What we want the folks of Argyle to know is while we made our mark with some insanely large companies, we work with every size business. Even if you’re only looking for a sounding board or a voice of reason, that’s what we do.

Q: Why did you choose to locate in Argyle?

Cameron: We’ve had offices in every corner of the country to support the business. The move to Argyle was 100% family and we did it for for the community. It took us two years to finally get here but it was well worth it. And the business followed. We’re not only close enough to respond quickly to our clients in the metroplex, but we can also pull from really deep talent pools in DFW as well as Denton.

Q: What's your favorite part of living and/or working in Argyle?

Cameron: The people. We’ve been here only three years, but it feels like home, especially for our kids and that’s what really matters.

Q: What does the future look like for your business?

Cameron: As I’m writing this, Denton County’s under a stay-at-home order so it’s tough to say! We’re wondering, like everyone else. But we’re fortunate that we’ve built a broad client base, from industries that tend to hold up well even in down economies. Lessons learned from 2008, I guess you could say. We’re also adding new elements constantly— website design, graphic design, still photography, you name it. If it’s related to media, we probably do it.

Q: What's one interesting fact about you or your business?

Cameron: We’ve been extremely fortunate to work with twelve Oscar-winning actors and win a couple of national Emmys along the way. But before we ever got started, the company name came from Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of South Park. They would
never address us by name, they would only yell “hey guys!” It stuck.
